A long time ago on the shore
Lived a kitten who wasn’t sure
Where he belonged: land or sea?
The one thing he knew: he had a dream.
Flipping his fins he’d get so far
Swimming with fish, being part of the swarm.
Rubbing his head deep in the warm sand,
Jumping with dolphins, fun would have no end.
Scales – and no fur – are all he wants
But fate decided: I think not.
Swimming, floating as the time flies,
That’s how his everydays go by.
Tonight too, he’s sitting on a rock
Watching as waves are hitting the dock.
And as a shooting star falls off the sky
He whispers his heart’s greatest desire.
A cold breeze, running down his spine
He turns his head to see her in the moonlight.
Her, a little ghost with a sad smile
Wishing the stars would come to her tonight.
She looks at him, eyes full of curiosity,
Yet he jumps, hides, not wanting company.
But under the full moon, he then takes a turn
A strange feeling, a longing that makes him return.
There they sit silently, the moon watching over them
Only the crickets are daring to make a sound there.
And as tranquil settles on the endless shore
Lingers a scent, much like the petrichor.
„Kitten, kitten, why are you so sad?
What could possibly form clouds over your head?”
„I have a dream (although silly, I know):
To be like the dolphins, just following the flow.
I have given up trying though, as it’ll never come true
So I’m just sitting here, feeling ever so blue.”
„But why so alone, aren’t you lonely?”
„I’ve got no friends, they all laughed at me.
Said I’m too childish, they all grew up suddenly
It’s better alone anyways, isn’t it?
What about you though? Wandering far from home…”
„You know, a home is not something a ghost would know.
I died long ago, so I’m wandering the city
Looking for friends who don’t look at me with pity.
And even though I always try to be present,
Let’s be honest, who would want a ghost as a friend?
They look through me like I wasn’t even there
Years together, yet they don’t know who I am.”
Silence settled, no more words were said
Heart-to-heart messages, two pearls in the same shell.
And as the moon reached the middle of the night sky
A star fell suddenly, bidding the others goodbye.
But as it was leaving, it saw the lonely souls
Granting wishes, shining, living up to its role.
But my oh my, dear, would you look at that
It had no job, they did a miracle themselves.
They found each other, that was more than enough,
Friendship in its glory, together ‘till the time stops.
They both felt accepted, childish yet so happy
Together through problems, tears, joyful destiny.
Both on adventures, making memories on the way
Growing together, better people day by day.
So dear reader, there’s one thing you should remember,
In this movie called ‘life’, plot twists are always a struggle.
Yet, happy ending’s not fate but a choice in your hands.
You’re not alone, someone’s waiting for you out there.
